Character Conflict

Individual vs. society: A Conceptual Approach

The phrase "individual vs. society" refers to a conflict between an individual and their society. Conflicts are often described in a literary work. It can be used to describe scenarios in which a maverick wants to rebel from cultural norms and feels restrained by society.

The agon in non-dramatic conflict

Conflict is a major literary element of narrative or dramatic structure that creates challenges in a story by adding uncertainty as to whether the goal will be achieved. Conflict is the challenge main characters need to solve to achieve their goals in works of narrative. Narrative is not limited to a single conflict.

Conflicts may not always resolve in a narrative, but the resolution of a conflict can create a sense of fulfillment or closure at the end of the story. Critics have observed that the agon is the central unit of the plot in modern non-dramatic literature. The less value there is in the drama, the easier it is for the hero to triumph.

The antagonist must act upon the main character and seem to over match him or her internal and external conflict. Nature might be the antagonist in William Faulkner's The Bear. Natural creatures and scenery oppose and resist the main character.

The relationship between society and individual is not always one-sided

The relationship between society and individual is not always one-sided. Both are essential for the comprehension. Both go hand in hand, each dependent on the other. Both are interdependent.

Character vs society conflict in literature

A character vs society conflict can be found in a lot of fiction.

Men and women in the early stage of divorce

The true distinctions between men and women are being explored. There are differences in the way men and women think, speak, and behave. Men are stronger.

They are usually more aggressive and oriented outside. A woman usually embodies the ideal of inner dignity. It is stronger than the most aggressive physical force, and some people think it is weakness.

Human dignity is a strong, steady voice that speaks from within. Really. The provider role should only be taken by men.

Some women are working. The provider role is different from working. 50% of bills are paid by women.

In case of divorce, why should man pay maintenance? How come man is responsible? The women have a responsibility to have an education.

Societies and Groups

There are some interesting differences between society and social group. Society and social group are not the same thing. A society is a large collection of humans who share a common set of values and lifestyles.

A society may be characterized by relationships among individuals and they may share the same cultural values. A social group is a collection of more than one individual, sharing common characteristics and being a united group. Society is a group of people who live in a common territory and share the same culture and institutions.

The members of a society have their own political, economical and cultural setting. Members of a society may have interrelationships. A society may have more than one.

There can be social groups that are different from each other and there can be power groups that are different from each other. A society benefits members in many ways. Sometimes it is difficult to get things done individually in a society that brings diverse individuals together.

There are different ethnicities, religions, castes and classes in a society. The members of different religions and ethnic groups share a common political, value and norm system. There is always a link between the members of a society.

The characterization of societies by their individual characteristics

Human societies are characterized by relationships between individuals. The term refers to the entire of humanity or a subset of people. When referring to a specific association, use the society, but remove the article "the" if it's a large number of people. American society is not the same as American society.
