The Simplified Ribbon of Outlook

The Outlook Ribbon contains all of the options and commands that you can use to do your job in Outlook. You can click on the buttons on the ribbon to create a new email, open a meeting, or assign a category to an item. The Ribbon takes up a lot of space on the screen.

If a button the Simplified Ribbon has a downward pointing arrow next to it, you can click that arrow to see other commands. The classic ribbon has buttons for both Email and New items. Clicking the arrow next to New Email will show all of the options that used to be under New items.

Using the Outlook ribbon to open and configure new commands

The Outlook ribbon has a collection of tools. It has several tabs that contain commands to commonly accessed tasks and the ribbon can be adjusted based on what you're doing in Outlook. The ribbon content changes if you switch from the Mail view to the Calendar view.

Hidden tabs appear when you execute certain tasks. The Attachment tab appears if you're working with e-mail attachments. When the ribbon is collapsed in Outlook, you use the commands that are displayed the most.

Using Outlook to Expand and Collapse the Backstage of Commands

Commands are grouped and separated by vertical lines. There are several commands groups under the main tab. There are groups on the Home tab in the Mail view.

Click on the commands you want to do. You can click the Archive command in the Delete group under the Home tab to move selected items to the Archive folder. The Outlook backstage view can be opened by clicking the File tab in the leftmost of main tabs.

Make sure the Ribbon is in the interface. If you want to change the Ribbon in Outlook, you have to hide it.

Tabs are hidden when an object is selected. Office 2007. Service Pack 2 adds native support for the OpenDocument Format.

The ODF Alliance has released test results on ODF support of Office 2007, concluding that it has serious flaws that would break the open standards based interoperability that the marketplace, especially governments, would like. There is no support for scrypting ODF files in the second edition of the software. Microsoft Office 2007 has features for data sharing.
