Increased complexity in research has made it difficult for the laboratory to be involved in the process of translation. Incentives are needed for the training of such individuals.

Basic research has been important in the development of treatments that lower the cholesterol. The knowledge acquired in neural biology suggests that new treatments for diseases like Alzheimer's could be designed in a few years. Without going any further, the use of biomedical techniques that allow a minimally-invasive diagnosis for the patient, and the application in the operating room has meant an advancement in surgery, still being an area of active development. The potential of the targeted delivery of drugs in a safer and more effective way is enormous, as is the potential of the techniques of gene and cell therapy to cure diseases such as leukemias or diseases such as cystic fibrosis. It seems obvious that the words Translational Medicine represent a vocation for progress in health of enormous importance that is already giving results.
