Equinix Acquisition of the US Data Centers Business
In December of 2016 Equinix agreed to purchase the US data centers business from Verizon for 3.6 billion dollars. There are 24 facilities in the deal. Five years after buying Terremark for over a billion dollars, the data-centers business is no longer a priority for the largest wireless carrier.
The sale of the US, Brazil and Colombia sites to Equinix is expected to close in the middle of next year. Equinix will be a partner for data-center services. In June 2012 the Hughes Telematics division was acquired by the enterprise solutions division.
US Mobile: A Newcomer to the Wireless Landscape
US Mobile is a newcomer to the wireless scene. The cellular service was founded in 2015 and offers affordable packages for subscribers who need wireless coverage but want some flexibility in the talk, text and time they use each month. With the addition of a second major carrier, US Mobile's options are now greater than ever, expanding to include unlimited data plans.
If you buy a device through the carrier, or if you're a student, you can get a free sim card if you do. You can find better deals on phones elsewhere, including on the used-smartphone market, if you use a $3.99 sim card. If you use your phone less than you should, you can enjoy low monthly costs with US Mobile. The addition of a new network makes US Mobile even more appealing.
Cell Phone Plans from MVNOs
Smaller carriers can use the networks of other networks to get the best cell phone plans, and it's not just the ones like T-Mobile and AT&T that do it. An MVNO will connect to the one that has the best speeds, and will use multiple carriers. Net10 uses a number of different carriers.
If you sign up for Net10, you will get the best service in your area. The cheapest carriers are not ones like the one from Verizon. In the best family packages and best pre-paid plans categories, it is one of the most expensive options.
