The Air Quality Index

The Air Quality Index is a measure of air quality. The AQI is a kind of temperature tester that can run from 0 to 500 degrees. The amount of pollution in the air is shown by the AQI, instead of the temperature.

Ozone and airborne particles pose the greatest risk to human health in the United States. Smog is a type of air pollution that reduces visibility. The satellites can provide particle pollution measurements.

JPSS satellites can measure aerosols over the entire planet once a day. JPSS can see aerosols moving from one side of the planet to the other. Carbon monoxide can be measured by JPSS and is associated with poor air quality.

Air pollution levels in the United States and their impact on public health

Air pollution levels are measured daily in more than 800 counties and ranked on a scale of 0 to 500 for air pollution levels that pose an immediate danger to the public. The five categories of air pollution are named after their names and have advice to go along with them.

Monitoring the air pollution concentration

The air pollutant concentration needs to be obtained from an air monitor model. Concentration and time are used to represent the amount of air pollutant. Health effects are established by epidemiological research.

The function used to convert air pollutant concentration to AQI varies by pollutant. The air quality index values are usually grouped into ranges. If multiple pollutants are measured at a monitoring site, the largest or "dominant" AQI value is reported for the location.

The larger the ozone AQI, the more it is computed with the 8-hour ozone value. The eight-hour ozone averages do not define the AQI values greater than 300. The SO2 values do not define higher AQI values.

Air Quality Index for Google Assistant

In late 2021, the air quality features for the Google Assistant were introduced. You can ask for the current conditions and get an alert when the AQI reaches unhealthy levels by using the ambient screen. The air quality index is a color-coded system with six different levels of severity.

The Short-term National Air Quality Standard (NAMA) and the AQI

The level of the short-term national ambient air quality standard for protection of public health is equal to the value of the AQI for each pollutant. The AQI values below 100 are thought of as satisfactory. Air quality is not good when the AQI values are over 100, but it is bad when the values are higher.

The AQI is divided into six different categories. Each category has a different level of health concern. Each category has a color.

Monitoring Environmental Change with Purple Air

The data from the monitors is used by Purple Air to track particulate pollution a global scale. People can put them indoors or outdoors.

The Sky is Reddish: A Smokey Mountain

The sky is a reddish color because of the smoke particles scattering the sun's light. The stronger the effect, the more particles are suspended in the atmosphere. When a moderate AQHI is in effect, people with respiratory conditions or allergies may need to reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities.

It is generally safe to assume outdoor activities for others if they have symptoms of coughing or throat irritation. Poor air quality can cause problems in the short term, such as breathing difficulties, irritation of the nose, throat, eyes, and skin, and pneumonia and bronchitis. There are also headaches and dizziness.

Indoor Exercises: A Good Idea to Avoid Outdoor Activities

The health concern is greater when the air pollution is higher than the AQI value. Anything under 100 is satisfactory. Values above 100 begin to get bad, affecting the most sensitive breathers initially, and pretty much everyone as it inches toward 500.

When pollution levels are high, it's a good idea to avoid exercising outdoors. Walk indoors in a shopping mall or use an exercise machine when the air is bad. If the air quality is bad, limit the amount of time your child spends outside.

Also, note: The US embassies in China only measure PM 2.5, so the air quality in China is based on that. The US embassy AQI reading may be artificially low during sandstorms where pollutants other than PM 2.5 are the main factor.

Airlief: a tool for monitoring air quality in the UK

It is possible to check allergy-related factors within AirMatters if you live in a place with a lot of data. Grass, mugwort, and ragweed are some of the plants that are monitored. You can add air quality monitoring stations for any area that you want to keep an eye on.

The third tab has a map of the world where monitoring stations can be selected. You can go deeper if you want to. The air quality button will take you to a screen where you can see what you are breathing in.
